St. Peter’s Boys SHS make it to the finals of The Sharks Quiz.
St. Peter’s SHS, Nkwatia, and Opoku Ware School, Kumasi, were in action in the second semi-final contest of Senior Sharks 5. They were on a quest to book a date with Presec in the grand finale, and possibly ruin their chances of reclaiming the title they lost to Wesley Girl's High School, Cape Coast.
Unlike Opoku Ware( OWASS), the Nkwatia-based school have never been to the finals of Senior Sharks.
Therefore, the motivation to become the first team to progress to the grand finale and go further to win it was a momentous one for St. Peter's(Persco).
OWASS on the other hand were also counting on their experience in the Sharks Quiz especially as Season 2 winners to see them through.
As alluded to in prior narrations, candidates for best contestant in Literacy, Numeracy, etc, have also stood out and powered their team to victory.
Even though St. Peter’s is an all-round team, they would have Setornam to thank still for being the cream of the crop.
Round 1
Opoku Ware set this contest in motion and dealt with some pretty tough General Knowledge questions commensurate with a semi-final meet.
Not unsurprisingly, they were able to do only half of the eight questions under two minutes.
OWASS earned forty( 40) points.
St. Peter’s was expected to put up a stronger showing, owing to their unique record of having two perfect scores.
St. Peter’s maintained their form but three questions concerning sitting members of parliament for some constituencies posed challenges.
Thus, St. Peter's ended the round with fifty(50) points.
Round 2
Elvis and Isaac took the places of Emmanuel and Gabriel for St. Peter’s and Opoku Ware respectively to shepherd their teams successfully.
In this “R- Cubed” Round, the Reading and Writing appeared to be the forte of OWASS with Papa Yaw as the lead figure.
When Arithmetic took over, Persco's Setornam gave a display that distinguished him as a strong contender for overall Best Numeracy student.
All in all Peter's stood stronger with fifty-five (55) points while OWASS took twenty-five (25) points to end the round.
Round 3
Opoku Ware started this round on a wrong foot when their first two interruptions returned as incorrect.
They were not themselves after that mix-up and were particularly held back by the fear of penalisation for incorrect answers.
By the time OWASS took a back seat, the harm had already been caused as they ended the round with a negative score of fifteen(-15) while St. Peter’s steered clear of such misfortune to end the round with twenty(20) points.
Round 4
It was still not over until it was over, but the scales were titled against OWASS, mathematically.
The specialists bearing the responsibility of delivering the final blow were:
Papa Yaw and Elvis for Peter's and OWASS respectively as English Scholars stepped forward.
What Elvis went through in respect of the first question can only be explained by him.
Papa Yaw couldn’t drum home the golden opportunity presented but he made amends and got the second question correctly.
Kwaku and Setornam pitted their mathematical acumen against each other for OWASS and Peter's respectively.
Setornam’s blistering form in Arithmetic continued as he delivered a correct answer to the first question in stupendous fashion.
His answer to the second question wasn’t what was required which allowed Kwaku to try his luck.
Luck was not on his side.
Two Science Sharks of high quality in Isaac and Kwasi Amo for OWASS and Peter's respectively faced off.
They shared the twenty(20) points available.
Justine and Joshua put themselves up as General Knowledge experts.
The first question was attempted by Joshua but he missed it while Justine stayed off.
Justine delivered correctly the second audio up for identification as that of the late Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, a.k.a Sir John.
Scores for the Fourth Round indicated thirty(30) points for OWASS and twenty(20) points for Peter’s.
With one hundred and forty-five (145) points, Peter's were through to their first ever grand finale of Senior Sharks as OWASS went away with eighty(80) points.
