Senior Sharks 9- Gallant Kumaca lose to Adisco

Adisadel College, Cape Coast, and Kumasi Academy, took competitiveness to another level when they met in Contest 3 at the Round 2 stage of the Senior Sharks quiz 9. It was a splendid showpiece, with both schools going to the moon and back in search of that all-important win. Adisadel College ran away victorious, but it did not come on a silver platter, as Kumasi Academy (Kumaca) gave them a hard run for their money. Indeed, at the end of the first two rounds, the points difference which had Adisadel in front was easily wipeable, showing just how formidable Kumaca were.

The turning point in this contest was the STEM round, the point at which Adisco’s expert in Science, Kelli, showed little mercy to Kumasi Academy.

Kumaca huffed and puffed in the final round in an effort to claim as many points as possible to deny Adisco, but they lost track of the galloping ‘Zebra boys’.

Right Corner Round (Social Literacy)

Questions are generally relatable, but when they contain a healthy dose of medieval European history, it needs a tactful approach.

Nonetheless, both teams put up a yeoman display as Kumaca ended the round with thirty (30) points with Adisco having a slim lead of forty (40).

R Cubed (Literacy and Numeracy)

In the English section of the round, it was Adisadel that created the impression they were going to win the round hands down.

But Kumaca had their cards to their chest, as they showed that their Arithmetic ability was peerless.

At the end of the round, both schools were content with the points earned as Kumaca had forty (40) points while Adisco had fifty (50) points.

STEM Round (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)

The first buzz of the round came from the left side of the quizmaster- and it was correct for ten (10) points.

Another correct buzz quickly followed the first, but this time it was from the right side of the quizmaster. It was plain to see that contestants knew this to be the “Nido iron for focus” zone- lose focus, lose your locus.

More buzzes with correct answers came from both sides of the lectern, creating a non-stop symphonic atmosphere.

At the end of the round, however, Adisco had done better to end the round with fifty-five (55) points while Kumaca was also happy to end the round with twenty-five (25) points.

One-On-One (English, Math, Science, General Knowledge)

Both schools still had a mathematical chance, and the final outcome of this contest rested solely on the final round.

Without further ado, Prince and Nathaniel for Adisco and Kumaca respectively strode to the lectern as English experts. Prince picked ten (10) points for Adisco.

Abu Saeed and Prince for Adisco and Kumaca respectively faced off in Math but neither got a point.

Science experts Kelli and Afrifa for Adisco and Kumaca respectively shared the twenty (20) between them.

Elikem and Elijah for Adisco and Kumaca respectively also split the twenty (20) points on offer equally.

An entertaining contest with a great show of sportsmanship had come to an end with final scores showing one hundred and fifteen (115) points against the ultimate winner Adisco’s one hundred and seventy-five (175) points.

Congratulations to both schools.

Fun Fact!

Adisco is the first boys' school from the Central Region to make it into the Round 16 of Senior Sharks 9.
