Sharks 5 - Mawuli SHS vs Apam Senior High

On opposing sides of the fourth contest of Round of 16, Senior Sharks 5, were Mawuli SHS, Ho, and Apam Senior High School.

One of these co-ed institutions was going to join the all-boys squad comprising Adisadel College, St. Augustine's College, and Presec, Legon, into the quarterfinals of Senior Sharks 5.

Mawuli SHS, Ho, have earned their stripes as top performers of Senior Sharks having reached the grand finale and quarter finals of Seasons 3 and 4 respectively.

Their opponents from the Central Region, minnows as they are, were also praiseworthy winners against St. Francis Girl's SHS, Jirapa, at the preliminary stage.

Sharks Season 5 has already seen lively and captivating contests which have earned positive accolades.

The Mawuli School and Apam SHS was another vivid illustration of the high level of competitiveness participating schools exhibit.

Round 1

It was Mawuli School which ushered this contest into being.

After their eight set of questions, Mawuli had halved the eighty(80) points up for grasp.

Apam SHS’ mantra: ‘obra pa gya owura kwan", loosely translates into, the good is oft interred with their bones.

If they had to bring this profound saying to life, it was in the first round of this contest, especially when Mawuli had slackened.

But tried as they did , forty(40) points was what they could leave as their footprints in the sand.

Round 2

Contestants faced questions on synonyms and antonyms under the Reading and Writing component of this R-Cubed round.

Meanwhile, Elliot and Henry for Mawuli School and Apam SHS respectively had earlier stepped in to replace Cobby and Gideon.

Mawuli SHS pulled probably one of the most remarkable achievements Senior Sharks will ever witness.

They did not miss a single Arithmetic question, be it a main question or a bonus question.

Particularly, Elliot and Theophilius employed their “head, heart and hand" synergistically to give hundred percent correct answers in the Arithmetic segment. Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!

Mawuli thus ended the round with sixty-five( 65) points while Apam settled for fifteen(15) points.

Round 3

The first preamble of the STEM round was not attempted to by both schools.

Mawuli made an attempt on the second question and nailed it.

In an unexplainable twist, Mawuli's subsequent set of answers were riddled with errors.

The cumulative effect of this was that they had shot themselves in the foot at the end of the round.

Mawuli ended the round with a negative score of five(-5) while Apam thanked their stars for having zero(0).

Round 4

Stephanie and Sedem stepped up as English specialists for Apam SHS and Mawuli School respectively.

Sedem attempted the first question but she was awful while Stephanie thought it through to land a correct answer.

Stephanie missed the second question but Sedem chose to stay off the question.

Next were Elliot and Henry for Mawuli SHS and Apam SHS as Math Specialists respectively.

Once again, Mawuli via Elliot put out a wrong answer while Henry had it right.

Henry got it right again on the second question and with that the marginal erosion of Mawuli’s points.

A rare and precious comeback in the offing? fans began to ask in murmuration.

In the midst of this, Doe-Kiinnii and Winifred for Mawuli and Apam respectively then mounted the podium as Science Sharks.

They both missed their two Science questions disappointingly and with that a welcome reprieve for Mawuli School.

General Knowledge sharks were Cobby and Jeffery for Mawuli and Apam respectively.

Cobby saved the day for Mawuli when he correctly identified the first female Vice- Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Amfo Appiah.

Again Cobby attempted the second question but this time he was off target.

Meanwhile Jefferey had no clues to any of the two questions and looked on in perplexity.

Round 4 score were- Mawuli School, ten(10) points with Apam SHS also with thirty( 30) points.

End of contest revealed that Mawuli’s Round 2 world class performance in the Arithmetic segment had adequately leveraged them in the rounds after.

Mawuli had won with one hundred and ten(110) points.

Apam SHS did not disgrace themselves as they came back strongly to end the contest with eighty-five(85) points.
