Sharks 5 - Presbyterian boys,Legon topples Holy Child School

Grand architects of quiz competitions, the Presbyterian Boys Senior High School(Presec), Legon, made their majestic appearance in the Sharks Season 5.

The Senior Sharks Season 4 losing finalists were at their eviscerating best against Holy Child School, Cape Coast, in the Round of 16.

Holy Child School got here by comfortably defeating Kumasi Academy at the preliminary stage while Presec is here by virtue of being a seeded team.

The matter-of-fact reality is that, only few schools will fancy their chances against any Presec side, all things being equal.

But then again in a quiz competition with expected and unexpected propositions like The Sharks Quiz, sometimes the impossible doth becomes possible.

So it was the case when the maidens of The Society of the Holy Child Jesus hoped to produce the impossible against the winners of Senior Sharks 3.

Both schools started this contest on a good note but as the tempo of the contest increased, Presec, alias Odade3 established a sizeable gap that Holy Child could not find manoeuvrable.

Round 1

Presec cut the ribbon of this Round, which sponsorship is borne by Kellogg's.

They, in accord with their reputation and exaltation did not disappoint one bit, ending the first round on a high.

At the end of their eight set of questions, Presec walked away with an excellent score of seventy(70).

Holy Child School(Holico), presenting same line up as in their last contest took over and applied themselves diligently to their eight set of questions.

They had fifty(50) points at the end of the round, which in comparison to Presec was low, but a good effort nonetheless.

Round 2

Master Alfred Nsiah and Miss Sheena Sackey stepped onto the podium as substitutes to breathe a new lease of life into the contest.

This R-cubed Round clearly set Presec apart from the Cape Coasters as Alfred and Tweneboah Kodua put their minds together effectively.

Holy Child didn’t fare badly, but the twenty(20) points they had was dwarfed by Presec’s fifty-five(55) points.

Round 3

The risky enterprise of buzzing to a set of incomplete preambles can make and unmake a team.

It is a skill requiring tact and a high degree of precision.

Presec, by courtesy of Alfred interrupted the reading of the clues to the first question of the STEM round.

His answer, however, did not meet the full requirements for ten(10) points.

Holy Child allowed all the preambles to be read and buzzed to hit ten(10) points.

The Blue Magicians, as Presec is fondly called reorganised themselves and came back to pick the second question and a couple more correctly.

Presec at the end of the penultimate round were ahead again with forty(40) points while Holy Child scored ten(10) points.

Round 4

By the time Round 4 began, Presec already had the cake, the One-on-one round was only to be the icing.

Perhaps fully appraised of this fact, they let their guards down a bit knowing that even if the full eighty(80) points is taken by Holy Child, they would still win this contest.

Holy Child School knew their fate was sealed also, but they were determined not to exit the competition ignominiously.

Thus, the lead brains in English, Math, Science and General Knowledge responded to the call to pitch their strengths.

Alexander faced off with Eugenia in English; Tweneboah Kodua took on Abigail in Math; Alfred faced off with Sheena in Science; and Ernest versus Christel rounded up the General Knowledge segment.

Tried as they did, all of them were at their wits end to bring an anticlimactic closure to this contest.

End of Round scores had both Presec and Holy Child scoring zero(0).

Regardless, Presec was into the next round with one hundred and sixty-five(165) points against eighty(80) points to Holy Child School.
