The famous Adisadel College, Cape Coast, made an agonising exit at the quarterfinals of Senior Sharks Season 5. Adisadel College were handed a painful defeat at the hands of fellow Cape Coasters, St. Augustine's College.

The famous Adisadel College, Cape Coast, made an agonising exit at the quarterfinals of Senior Sharks Season 5.

Adisadel College were handed a painful defeat at the hands of fellow Cape Coasters, St. Augustine's College.

St. Augustine's College, though did not have the win on a silver platter as they wrung sweat from their brow before victory came their way.

It took a tie-breaker question before St. Augustine's College(Augusco) could secure a win to keep alive the dream of outperforming their seniors from Season 4.

Adisco, their exit from the Senior Sharks 5 notwithstanding came into this contest in redder than red form.

The Senior Sharks Season 2 second runner-up hold the record as the team with the second highest score of two hundred and twenty-two(220) in Season 5.

Added to that - the Zebra Boys also shocked connoisseurs when they bundled Season 4 winners, Wesley Girls High School, out of Sharks Season 5.

Augusco are no less a potent force, being cognizant of their second runner-up position in Senior Sharks Season 4.

Further, they also tie with St. Thomas Aquinas SHS as the schools with the third highest score of two hundred(200) in Senior Sharks 5.

It was therefore not to be remiss when this contest was dubbed the “finals before the finals"’- a pound-for-pound match-up deserving of superfluous articulation.

Round 1

St. Augustine's College rolled the dice for Round 1 of this contest to begin.

In their last contest, the boys from Bakaano did not have any difficulties with their eight set of questions.

The story continued in this contest as they ended the round with sixty(60) points.

Adisco had dipped a bit from their eighty(80) peerless points in Contest 1 to forty(40) points in Contest 2.

In contest number 3, the Pedu-based school ended the round with an above- average score of fifty(50) points.

Round 2

Sylvestre and Abdul Wadud, two notable game changers stepped into the arena for St. Augustine's College and Adisadel College respectively.

The energy levels displayed by these two teams in this R-Cubed Round was indicative of the high stakes this contest presented.

On the obverse side, Adisco were abysmal in the Arithmetic segment as they failed to answer correctly a single question.

Nonetheless, they were able to match Augusco with same forty(40) points to end the round.

Round 3

First question and first buzz of the round sounded from the camp of St. Augustine's College but they hit a snag.

Adisadel picked the gauntlet and responded by buzzing for the second question but they also returned with an incorrect answer.

Correct and incorrect answers, hit and misses inundated the round till the accurate time keeper's bell chimed for the end of the round.

St. Augustine's had taken their chances better and ended the round with twenty-five(25) points while Adisco parted with five(5) points.

Round 4

Adisco had shown a dogged determination in the last round of their last contest as they came from behind to beat Wesley Girl's High School.

Will there be a repeat of that incredible comeback or Augusco’s perseverance would conquer all?

Troding on, Nana Adufo and Antwi faced off in the English segment for Adisco and Augusco respectively.

Only one question was picked correctly out of the two questions and that went for Adisadel College.

Ezekiel and Prince faced each other as Math doyens for Augusco and Adisco respectively and once again only one correct answer went to Adisadel College.

Science Sharks were Sylvestre and Abdul Wadud for Augusco and Adisco respectively.

This time round they shared the twenty(20) points equally between them.

General Knowledge specialists Marvin and Banyan mounted the lectern for Augusco and Adisco respectively.

Banyan got the better of Marvin as his identification of Chinese Premier, Xi Jinping was pinpoint.

On to the next test, and they both remained stuck on their feet as they wondered and pondered the voice being played for identification but to no avail.

End of round scores showed Adisco had once again amassed an all important forty(40) points.

Augusco had ten(10) points, which would also prove very consequential.

At the end of this super-enthralling contest, Senior Sharks 5 had its first stalemate.

St. Augustine's College had in their bag, one hundred and thirty-five(135) points, and Adisadel College had one hundred and thirty-five(135) points. Bravoooo!!!

As per the ground rules, one random question needed to be answered correctly in ‘extra time' to determine the victor.

Sylvester, a National Science and Maths Quiz material for St. Augustine’s College was to be the hero of the day as he buzzed correctly after Adisco had missed.
