Junior Sharks 9- ‘Sudden death’ separates high-performing Archbishop Andoh and GIU Christian Int.

Whereas GIU Christian was competing as a Ranked School, Archbishop Andoh R/C came out victorious in a knife-edge encounter with Peniel Academy in the preliminary round.

GIU Christian International took a slight tumble in the Right Corner Round and could have spiralled further downwards but they stood firm.

Slowly and steadily, they picked the remaining rounds in their favour to level themselves with Archbishop Andoh to end an electrifying contest.

That steady momentum built across the last three rounds, helped GIU muster the courage to deliver the final blow to Archbishop Andoh R/C Basic as the contest entered a first-to-the-bell stage.

The Tema Newtown-based school showed great tenacity to hold their own all the way from the First Round, but the last laugh was GIU’s.

Right Corner Round

Archbishop Andoh had won the right to go first on their social literacy questions.

With good conferencing and a combination of heads, they were able to pick four questions out of eight to end the round with forty (40) points.

GIU’s story was not fundamentally different, but they could not meet the mark set by Archbishop Andoh as they ended the round with twenty (20) points.

R Cubed Round

The change in line-up for GUI saw Dedrick joining the action to help revive the chances of GIU.

The Literacy segment of this round did not start in the expected fashion, but both schools were able to bubble to the surface.

Shockingly, GIU missed their first Arithmetic question, in a replay of the start of the Literacy segment.

Both GIU and Archbishop Andoh then got their third question rightly answered, which opened the gates to successive correct answers from both teams.

On their last question, however, Archbishop Andoh misfired to give GIU the last laugh of the round.

In the end, the results were well-earned, with GIU earning fifty (50) points while Archbishop Andoh scored forty-five (45).

STEM Round

At this stage, it was not rocket science to see that the contestants were feeling the mounting pressure, owing to the closeness of their scores.

Both schools competed exceptionally well, though, with GIU having the upper hand in the early stages while Archbishop came in strongly in the middle stages.

But once again, GIU had the overall advantage to end the round with thirty (30) points while Archbishop Andoh lurked behind with twenty-five (25) points.

One-On-One Round

No slackness, and no dullness in this round, with the scores still too close to call as Adepa for Archbishop, and Dedrick for GIU came as English experts respectively.

Adepa’s colour consciousness was par excellence as she correctly identified the missing letters in the colour, Fuchsia.

But both experts couldn’t nail down the missing letters in the word “Innoculate”.

Blaise and Kudjo for Archbishop Andoh and GIU respectively as mathematicians came up next. Whereas Kudjo took the first question, Blaise responded by picking the second question.

Princess and Ferbert for GIU and Archbishop Andoh respectively as Science experts were in action next. 

It was Princess’ day to shine as she stretched herself to her elastic limit to bag the two questions for GIU.

Desmond for Archbishop Andoh, and Dayvin for GIU as General Knowledge experts ended the round on a bleak note.

At the end of another exciting round, 

GIU had thirty (30) points while Archbishop Andoh took twenty (20) points.

The quizmistress’s announcement that each school obtained one hundred and thirty (130) points at the end of the contest translated into a case for a tie-breaker to determine who moves to the next stage of the competition.

It was GIU who went through by the skin of their teeth after hitting the second question.

GIU International and Archbishop Andoh’s contest is the first to go down to a sudden death at this stage of the competition.
