Senior Sharks 9- Kumasi Academy drills Tarkwa SHS

To put things in their proper perspective, Tarkwa SHS tried to mine something precious in this contest but it unfortunately turned out to be nothing more than an exploration mission.

The biggest motivation going forward for the ‘Miners’ though will be that they came into the picture in at least two rounds and could have carried the day had they proceeded more efficiently.

At the end of the day, Kumasi Academy did what needed to be done to stay in the Senior Sharks 9.

Right Corner Round (Social Literacy)

Questions in this round have potentially had a say in who makes it to the next stage of the competition.

Bearing this in mind, both schools showed a strong desire to have a good head start but things didn’t go so well for Tarkwa SHS as they ended the round with ten (10) points.

Kumasi Academy, went two steps better to end the round with thirty (30) points.

R Cubed Round (Literacy and Numeracy)

Until Kumaca showed bravery to get their main question, both schools had missed all their questions in the Arithmetic segment.

The Reading and Writing were also nothing to write home about, but the cumulative effect of their efforts resulted in a marginal gain for Kumaca.

At the end of the round, Tarkwa SHS had twenty (20) points while Kumasi Academy had twenty-five (25) points in this antepenultimate round.

STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

Tarkwa SHS struck gold early in the round, bagging two riddles, back-to-back.

But if Tarkwa’s display was sweet, Kumasi Academy’s was sweeter, taking four questions in back-to-back-to-back-to-back style.

With two wrong questions blotting the impressive run of these two schools, it was Kumasi Academy who ended the #MoreFocus round stronger with forty (40) points while Tarkwa SHS obtained thirty (30) points.

One-On-One (Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Social Literacy)

The thirty-five (35) points standing between Kumaca and Tarkwa SHS- advantage Kumaca could easily be wiped out by two correct answers from two experts. This was well and amply understood by all.

The sixty-four million dollar question though was whether the experts from Tarkwa SHS were mentally present enough to execute such a project?

Consequently, Kumaca's Nathaniel was pitted against Tarkwa's Nicole as English specialists.

Nicole provided the correct missing letters on the second question, after both had failed on the first question.

David showed up to tussle with Prosper as a math specialist for Kumasi Academy and Tarkwa SHS respectively.

Expectations from the supporters were not met as both contestants found their answers to the two questions declared off the bar.

Felix and Afrifa marked themselves as Science specialists for Tarkwa and Kumasi Academy respectively.

It was Afrifa who beat Felix to the first question, and on his second buzz too.

In General Knowledge, Evans for Tarkwa SHS and Elijah for Kumasi Academy respectively were the pair of experts.

They had no clue about the first question and second question asked.

At the end of the round, Kumasi Academy took the lead again with twenty (20) points, while Tarkwa SHS scored ten (10) points.

Final scores tallied gave Tarkwa SHS seventy-five (75) points with Kumasi Academy stepping into the next round with one hundred and ten (110) points. Congratulations to both schools.

Fun Fact!

Kumasi Academy is the first school from the Ashanti Region to move to the next stage of the competition.
