Junior Sharks 8 quarterfinals- VAR separates Manna Int. and DPSI in Junior Sharks ‘el classico’
Manna International versus Delhi Private School International (DPSI) in Junior Sharks is a contest that needs no hype- the quality on display always sells itself. The most anticipated, eyeballed, and hotly contested match in the eight-year history of Junior Sharks once again made headlines in Junior Sharks 8. The Manna and DPSI contest is no ordinary contest- it is deeper than just an intellectual slugfest- bigger than a race to touch the coveted Golden Book of Knowledge.
It is a battle for the soul of the Junior Sharks quiz, and the crown of ‘king of kings’ in academics.
Two-time champions each, back-to-back champions, Best Contestants Awards, etc. The list of accomplishments in the resume of these two teams is simply breathtaking.
Indeed, the unpredictable nature of this match-up is enough to make the fans' hair stand on end.
It was the finest margins, the minutest of details, that made all the difference in this quarter-finals clash dubbed ‘el classico’ of Junior Sharks. Showtime!
Round 1 (Right Corner)
DPSI, having won the toss to start the contest, went in first, and caused the hearts of Manna Int fans palpitating rapidly.
Their sixty (60) points at the end of the round were twenty (20) better than Manna’s forty (40) points, which wasn’t bad, to be fair.
Round 2 (R Cubed)
It was now Manna’s turn to begin the round and ease the pressure on them from the first round.
They bagged their first question in the Reading & Writing segment; DPSI followed suit, then Manna followed, and then DPSI responded.
This round kept fans' eyes going left, right and left as they followed the action from these super-talented teams like in a game of ping-pong.
Manna Int ended the round, now leading with fifty (50) points owing to their superlative performance in the Arithmetic segment.
But don’t discount DPSI yet, because they lurked menacingly behind Manna with forty-five (45) points.
Round 3 (STEM Round)
At this juncture, a redeployment of the men and women at work was not only necessary but crucial.
DPSI threw in Sachhi, while Manna Int brought on Stephen, as they hoped to change the course of this contest in their favour.
DPSI dropped points when they received an incorrect response to their buzz to the first riddle, but they came back again to right their first miss.
In the end, it was Manna Int who had the last laugh in the round, finishing off a well-worked-out strategy to earn thirty-five (35) points against the twenty (20) points DPSI took away.
Round 4 (One-on-one)
Maame Yaa and Bernard for DPSI and Manna Int, respectively, as experts in English, were projected onto the big screen. Bernard hit the first question for ten (10) points to Manna.
Then it was the turn of Ephraim and William for Manna and DPSI respectively to do what everyone looked up to them to do.
They didn’t let their fans down as William hit the first question and Ephraim responded.
In Science, Stephen as expert for Manna and Samuel as expert for DPSI respectively came up.
First question went unanswered, but Samuel found a way to wring an answer out of the second riddle.
Joy and Kwaku for Manna and DPSI in General Knowledge respectively stepped up to cap off a truly fulfilling contest.
After Kwaku appeared to have mispronounced the name of the revered lady Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, Gertrude Torkonoo, Joy was quick to fine tune Kwaku’s pronunciation. Another ten (10) points for Manna.
Scores at the end of the round, had thirty (30) points for Manna and DPSI once again closely behind with twenty (20) points.
At the end of the contest, DPSI had proven their mettle by totalling an astounding one hundred and forty-five (145) points as Manna got their sweet revenge with one hundred and fifty-five (155) points.
