Senior Sharks 9 R16- Defending champions, Augusco, get dream start to title defence

St. Augustine's College (Augusco) showed they have not lost the sharp-witted acumen that took them all the way to a historic first title in Season 8.

The Bakaano-based gentlemen outboxed and outfoxed West Africa SHS front and back.

Coming into this contest on the back of a commanding display against Nifa SHS, and St. Thomas Aquinas, WASS had their confidence soaring like a kite.

The defending champions were not in any mood to help WASS on their treasure hunt, as they caged the Adenta-based school to record a very comfortable win.

Round-By-Round Account

Augusco’s forty (40) point gap in the First Round had set the tone for a dominant display. 

In the second round dubbed “R Cubed”, the defending champions widened the gap, earning a massive score of fifty( 50). Meanwhile, WASS had mustered twenty (20) points each in the first and second rounds, which would amount to something on a different day.

As much as the point difference had widened, the contest was only halfway through, and with the resilience shown by WASS so far in the competition, the defending champions had to tread cautiously.

But another flawless display in the STEM Round all but sealed the victory of St. Augustine’s College. They had twenty-five (25) points while WASS sank into an abyss with negative ten (-10) points.

Even though the contest was out of the winning possibility for West Africa SHS, they had their pride at stake. With all their might, they gave the one-on-one round one big push to the finish line. And it paid off for WASS.

The raw scores showed WASS had earned twenty (20) points, the same as the defending champions.

In the final analysis, WASS earned a total of fifty (50) points, while Augusco soldiered on with one hundred and fifty-five (155) points.
