Senior Sharks 9 R16 - Prempeh show OWASS 'SENIORman’ things

Each year, the Senior Sharks Quiz takes fans to a whole new intellectual plane. Season 9 has been no different. So far, fans have been treated to a healthy dose of glory. There have been moments of deep anguish too. Rivalries have also had their fair share of the limelight. Indeed, as many as five contests featuring familiar foes have been keenly fought so far, with mixed outcomes. Some contests have gone according to script, others have disobeyed the laws of thermodynamics.

However, all this paled in comparison to what was about to unfold. It was the second contest of the Round of 16. In action were two academic titans from Kumasi- Prempeh College, Sofoline, and Opoku Ware School, Santasi.

Their accomplishments are towering. And there is a history of ferocious competition between them to add to the plot.

Against this background, contests involving the two naturally draw the biggest crowds and generate the most buzz.

The debate over who was more deserving of the title, “Kings of Ashanti” thus continued unabated. For die-hard fans of both schools, this match was a divine arrangement - a God-sent opportunity to settle scores - at no other place than the most inquisitive high school quiz ever.

And the contest lived up to the billing. A classic showpiece of dexterity, strategy, and bravery.

With the stakes at its all-time high, both knew that the wiggle room was small. Any opportunity to shore up points was not spared. There was no time for second-guessing. No slacking!

After four rounds of going at each other with all they have, Prempeh College delivered a class act. The school once touted as producing the most doctors had surgically excised their arch-nemesis, Opoku Ware, from Senior Sharks 9.

Round-By-Round Action

Even with the tension already at its peak, both schools did well to earn good scores at the end of the Right Corner Round.

After testing each other’s pulse, the two teams upped their game, delivering spectacularly in the R Cubed Round.

Prempeh were in the lead once again scoring a massive sixty (60) points while Opoku Ware followed closely with fifty-five (55) points.

At this rate, the contest was showing signs of going the long haul but Prempeh quickly changed tactics in the STEM Round and reshuffled the dynamics of the game.

The “King’s College”, another moniker for Prempeh College, dominated the riddles, completely shutting down their sworn rivals with forty (40) massive points.

Opoku Ware, a.k.a ‘Akatakyie’ were simply out of depth in the STEM Round and now had only the One-On-One Round to salvage their pride.

And they rose valiantly to redeem themselves with an impressive forty (40) points in the last round of the contest. Unfortunately for OWASS, Prempeh refused to stay mute, fighting hard to gain twenty (20) points to add to their tally. The end result thus gave one hundred and fifteen (115) points to Opoku Ware, while Prempeh College ran away with one hundred and fifty (150) points. Congratulations to both schools.

Fun Fact!
