Senior Sharks 9- Accra Girls give their all but Mpraeso SHS scrape through
Mpraeso SHS has made it to the Senior Sharks 9 next round on the back of a scrappy win against Accra Girls SHS. The mountaineers went back to the drawing board after their anguishing exit at Round 1 of Senior Sharks 8 and came into this competition as an improved team. Their opponents in Contest 2 of the Senior Sharks 9 were Accra Girls SHS, who like Mpraeso in Season 8 before, were undergoing their initiation rites in the Senior Sharks Quiz.
It was a counteractive battle, with each school experiencing its highs and lows at specific rounds of the contest, until a momentary breakthrough propelled Mpraeso to victory.
The progression of Mpraeso SHS to the next round of the Senior Sharks 9, sketchy as it was, is also proof of the fact that consistency pays.
Right Corner Round (Social Literacy)
The contest started in slow motion, as neither school shone in the opening round.
Nonetheless, Accra Girls’ SHS took the early lead with twenty (20) points, while Mpraeso SHS scored ten (10) points.
R Cubed Round ( Literacy and Numeracy)
Mpraeso had a fairly unproblematic Reading and Writing segment, where they picked two of Accra Girl’s bonus questions.
The Arithmetic shone favourably on Accra Girls, but it wasn’t enough to completely erode Mpraeso’s score of forty-five (45) at the end of the round.
Accra Girls’ SHS meanwhile scored fifteen (15) points to keep their dreams alive.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
With confidence oozing, Accra Girls stepped up and delivered the first riddle of the round beautifully.
Fans observed a quiescence akin to a solemn procession of pilgrims thereafter until Mpraeso decided to disturb the waters. It was Waterloo!
Accra Girls then analysed, dissected, and diagnosed the correct answer as “Sulphur Dioxide”.
Both schools then had their turns to earn good points with Accra Girls’ SHS scoring thirty (30) points, while Mpraeso SHS secured ten ( 10) points to end this round.
With the contest impossible to call at this stage, the tension continued to build as it headed into the final round.
One-On-One (Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Social Literacy)
Both teams could see victory on the horizon, and who would get there first was a matter left for the experts in this round. Matilda and Elizabeth appeared as English experts for Accra Girls’ and Mpraeso respectively. They didn’t add any value to their teams.
Elizabeth and Eleanor also came forth as Math experts for Accra Girl and Mpraeso SHS respectively. The no-show story continued with the Math experts.
In Science, Doris and Samuel stepped up as experts for Accra Girls and Mpraeso respectively.
Alas! Doris bagged the first ten (10) points of this round.
Caroline and Philemon completed the lineup of experts, but none was able to bring any more points.
Thus, scores at the end of the round were given as Accra Girls with no points and Mpraeso with ten (10) points.
Final scores in this colourful encounter were distributed as follows: sixty- five (65) for Accra Girls’ and seventy-five (75) for Mpraeso SHS. Congratulations to both teams.
