FIRST TIMERS ST. CATHERINE GIRLS GIVE OFF AN IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE OVER KUMASI ACADEMY
Contest two of day four of the senior edition of the Sharks Quiz was a contest to behold as a mixed school and an all-girls school displayed a level of brilliance leveled to the Sharks Quiz only.
Kumasi Academy was represented by Emmanuel’s, Chris, Joycelyn and Papa Yaw whereas St. Catherine Girls SHS was represented by Millicent, Josephine, Philiomina and Margaret.
All was set for an intriguing display.
ROUND 1
Kumasi Academy had a very low start to the round, passing almost all their questions, six in all consecutively. With an incorrect answer, even when they tried, that incorrect sequence dealt a blow to their foundation in the contest. In as much they tried, things did not work out.
St. Catherine Girls SHS equally had a slow start to this round but still managed to pull through with a sequence of right answers that put them up ahead in the contest and an advantage throughout. But there was much more to be done.
ROUND 2
St. Catherine made a substitution with Anne coming in whilst Christian came in for Kumasi Academy. Both schools started the round with accurate answers but Kumasi Academy missed their second question with a wrong answer.
To avoid a negative rebound, both schools were very careful not to lose points as a loss of points could prove detrimental. A lot of bonus Mrs were passed unanswered as their resolutions remained in check, and the contestants protected their already accumulated points. Kumasi Academy bounced back slightly to win the round with a 10-point difference.
ROUND 3
The attention in this round was paramount as a minor lapse could result in not answers question or missing one, proving academically fatal. Kumaca answer either first question correctly, attempted the second one but failed. St. Catherine picked it up and got it right. No school left a question to chance in this round.
The back-and-forth of the questions, the bonuses being picked and the questions being passed matched the energy of the round and delivery by both schools.
ROUND 4
This round was the decider. Joycelyn and Millicent matched for the English set with Joycelyn getting an answer correctly whilst Millicent did same.
Christian and Margaret locked it up for the Marhs set with Margaret picking up points.
Both contestants lost in the Science set with inaccurate answers whilst Josephine triumphed over Chris in the general knowledge set with an answer ‘Cape Verde’.
The contest was fierce and both schools deserved to win but the girls of St. Catherine proved more poised and composed for the win.
