Senior Sharks 9 R16- Wesley Girl’s clear difficult St. Hubert hurdle
When Wesley Girls’ High School, Cape Coast, faced St. Hubert SHS and Minor Seminary at the Round 16 of Senior Sharks 9, there was more at stake than qualifying into the next round. All eyes were on the Season 4 champions, being the last girls’ school left standing in the Senior Sharks 9. There was a huge responsibility on the shoulders of Wesley Girls’ School to hoist the flag of all girls' schools in the country.
Perhaps the Cape Coasters had been destined for this assignment owing to their undisputable record as the only school with a “Golden Book Knowledge” in their closet.
Taking a cue from the popular maxim “rise to the challenge” of the Senior Sharks, Wesley Girls, (Wey Gey Hey) picked St. Hubert gauntlet and readied themselves for battle.
The contest was a fast-paced one, with both schools demonstrating that they have what it takes to compete with the crème de la crème of Senior Sharks.
But it was Wesley Girls’ (Wey Gey Hey) who jetted off right from the beginning of the first round, leaving the “Hunters” with a meagre catch.
True to their accolade, though, St. Hubert hunted Wesley Girls down in the subsequent rounds and caught up with them to make this contest a sizzling encounter.
Round-By-Round Action
It is believed that Wesley Girls’ contests have always been characterised by a strong showing in the arts and literacy subjects.
And they reaffirmed that once again as they amassed a whopping sixty (60) points at the end of the first round.
St. Hubert was also in the picture regardless, earning twenty (20) points to end the round.
In Round 2, a combination of mathematical ingenuity gave St. Hubert a huge leap of sixty (60) points, as they overtook Wesley Girls’. But the Season 4 champions did not wander afield as they kept close monitoring on St. Hubert with thirty-five (35) points. Suddenly the momentum was shifting and fans could not keep their eyes off the action.
The STEM Round, known in Senior Sharks circles as “Nido Iron For Focus” Round, really brought out the sharpness in both schools.
After a raft of buzzes and responses, St. Hubert SHS had done a fantastic job to earn thirty (30) points while Wesley Girls could manage five (5) points for their toils.
The contest was now anybody's for the taking as the experts aimed themselves for the kill. It was a difficult last round where both schools threw on board all they had left in the tank.
At the end of the round, both teams walked away with ten (10) points, which effectively played to the advantage of Wesley Girls’ High School.
Congratulations to both schools.
