Matta Devi give Ghana Christian High tough time

Ghana Christian High International have made it to the quarterfinals of Junior Sharks 7, but not without pins and needles. The three-time unprecedented winners of Junior Sharks played guests to Matta Devi Int. at the Round of 16. Ghana Christian High Int. were slightly off- balance in this contest and were at risk of having their armor dented.

Matta Devi competed with their all, and but for one or two miscues could have landed themselves a Super Ranked status just as Ghana Christian High.

Overall, the contest was a low scoring one but still produced outstanding contestants who stand to rock shoulders with the crème de la crème of the most innovative quiz yet.

Right Corner Round

This being the beginning of the contest, and especially with a “no points deduction” caveat in this round, teams logically strive to start well to give them a psychological edge.

Ghana Christian High and Matta Devi, however, will take solace in the admonishment in Proverbs, 19: 21, thus, “man proposes, but God disposes”.

In this contest, both teams had all their tries at the social literacy questions come to naught.

R Cubed Round

The contest needed a blend of cinnamon and ginger to spice it up, and Lois, new entrant for Matta Devi provided just that.

Christian High accepted the gauntlet thrown, figuratively and literally, and made correct buzzes to end the Reading and Writing segment better off.

In the Arithmetic segment, Matta Devi led the way once again, being the first to pick ten (10) points.

Ghana Christian didn't step back, but forged on gallantly to keep the heat on Matta Devi.

At the end of the round, thirty (30) points stood for Ghana Christian High while Matta Devi bagged twenty (20) points.

STEM Round

The quizmaster’s reading of the clues to the first riddle was halted by the sound of the buzzer from Ghana Christian High.

They were wrong on their attempts at the first and second riddles, handing over the chance to Matta Devi to hit the first riddle correctly.

Fans virtually had their hearts in their mouths as both schools took turns to err on their attempts.

Ghana Christian High had something to smile about though, ending the round with twenty (20) points, while Matta Devi got zero (0) points.

One-on-one Round

The Final Round of this contest had arrived, and the contest was still open, paving the way for experts to finish the work.

Accordingly, Lois and Ewurama were tagged as the English experts for Matta Devi and Ghana Christian High respectively.

Lois was poised- and on two occasions, she made the right choice.

Twenty (20) points in the bag for Matta Devi.

Nana Kwesi pitted his mathematical know-how with Obed in Ghana Christian High and Matta Devi's names respectively.

Their inability to get any of the questions correctly meant that this contest was going all the way to the wire.

Then, John and Kwame were paired up as Science Sharks for Ghana Christian and Matta Devi respectively.

Say cheese! but this was not a photo shoot for the gram, it was John delivering “CHEESE” to the first riddle.

That was the only correct answer in the Science segment.

Christian and Kofi Kwakye came up as General Knowledge specialists for Matta Devi and Ghana Christian High respectively.

It was only Christian who could identify Ghanaian boxer, Freezy Mcbones, real name Seth Gyimah after both missed the first photo.

At the end of the round, Matta Devi had thirty (30) points and Ghana Christian High had ten (10) points.

Final Scores showed fifty (50) points to Matta Devi and winners Ghana Christian High International with sixty (60).

Matta Devi are 2021 winners of the Junior Science and Math Quiz, but are yet to replicate their winning streak in Junior Sharks.

We wish them best of luck in subsequent editions of Junior Sharks as congratulations go to Ghana Christian High International School.
