Sharks 5 - Okuapeman SHS Vrs International Community School (ICS)

Okuapeman SHS and International Community School(ICS), took their turn at scaling the first hurdle of the Senior Sharks 5.

In the Junior Sharks 4, ICS, Accra, set the bar high when they went all the way to the grand finale, losing to Manna Int.

ICS came into the Senior Sharks 5, therefore, on a mission to match or better what their junior colleagues had achieved.

Okuapeman SHS, Akropong, would not let ICS have it smooth sailing and vowed to make it a mission impossible for them.

This ding-dong contest went all the way to the wire and only a last-minute stroke of brilliance from Okuapeman could secure victory.

From ICS, Masters Daryl, Selasi, and Misses Benewaa and Vanessa were the ladies and gentlemen hoping to make history.

Round 1

Okuapeman turned on the ignition for Round 1 of this second contest of Episode 3 to start.

The quartet of Isaac, Alfred, Jeannot and Firdaus appeared very sharp and knowledgeable in Social Literacy.

Okuapeman scored sixty(60) points at the end of the first round.

ICS put on a show which was a far cry from what many expected from them.

In summary, they scored zero(0) in Round 1.

Round 2

Substitution by Okuapeman saw their only female contestant exit the competition for Peterson Samuel Paa Kwesi to take her place.

With that out of the way, Round 2 came into force therewith.

Both schools upped their ante in the Arithmetic segment after a dismal output in the Reading and Writing.

ICS were the better side though, earning twenty-five (25) points for their improved output.

Okuapeman earned ten(10) points to stay in pole position heading into the penultimate Round.

Round 3

Colette made an entry into the contest for ICS to relieve Benewaa.

ICS took the first two questions in quick succession to peg back Okuapeman's lead.

Thereafter both schools decided it was best to err on the side of caution to avoid suffering point deductions for guess work.

Okuapeman attempted one question asking “what two planets of our solar system are most alike in elemental make-up to the solar nebula”?

Their answer of Venus and the Earth was not what was required, rather it was Jupiter and Saturn.

They didn’t let this set-back demoralize them as they put on their calculative cap and solved the last Math question of the round.

What a pulsating three sets of rounds so far, which then opened the contest wide open to both teams.

At the end of Round 3, ICS were comfortable with thirty(30) points while Okuapeman would count themselves very lucky to walk away with five(5) points.

Round 4

The point tally so far: Okuapeman- seventy five(75) points, ICS- fifty-five(55) points.

Who will end the contest strongly to clinch a hard fought victory?

The following masters in English, Math, Science and General Knowledge were called to the frontline.

Mbrol from ICS faced Alfred from Okuapeman in the English segment.

Daryl from ICS faced Peterson from Okuapeman in the Math segment.

None had any clue whatsoever to their two set of questions.

Colette from ICS faced Isaac from Okuapeman in the Science segment.

Again and interestingly, none of them could come up with correct answers to their two set of questions.

The fate of ICS was now rested on Selasi who had earlier distinguished himself in the preceding rounds.

If he buzzed correctly to all two questions in the General Knowledge segment , contest is tied for a photo-finish.

Anything less than that is game over for ICS, Accra.

His opponent was Jeannot.

For their first assignment, they were to identify the photo of the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.

Selasi buzzed to answer correctly, almost nonchalantly.

Selasi was standing on the cusp of having his name deified and beatified- an ICS LEGEND in the making.

But before Selasi could think of a likely answer to the second photo, Jeannot kept his cool to also correctly identify it as the map of Australia.

The round thus ended with ten(10) points for each school.

Okuapeman SHS had laboured, but they made it through with eighty-five(85) points against sixty-five(65) points to ICS.
