St. Thomas Aquinas whisks past Aggrey Memorial Zion SHS

St. Thomas Aquinas SHS have eliminated Aggrey Memorial Zion SHS, Cape Coast, from the Senior Sharks 8 competition. Beyond their own exertions, the ‘Old Toms’, a sweet moniker for St. Thomas Aquinas, have a lot of adoration to give their patron Saint for this victory. The contest was an intensely waged one, but the early bird phenomenon worked to the benefit of St. Thomas Aquinas SHS. Aggrey Memorial SHS, being the tried and proven team they are, competed fiercely against the Season 1 1st-runner-up in this Round of 32 contest.

Their most defining moment came in Round 2, which pushed them to the brink of overcoming St. Thomas Aquinas.

The Cape Coasters added the final round to further maximise their chances of a storybook comeback win, but St. Thomas Aquinas remained in the driving seat to a deserved victory.

Round-by-round action

Every team’s wish in the highly innovative Senior Sharks quiz is to start in the best possible way.

But it was Aggrey Memorial who received the unpalatable news that deeds and wishes are not always complementary to each other in Senior Sharks 8.

Right from the Right Corner Round, St. Thomas Aquinas combined forces to score a massive fifty (50), which was thirty (30) better than Aggrey’s twenty (20).

Being in such a disadvantaged position would have caused an implosion in some teams, but the Cape Coasters responded well and snatched the R Cubed Round by thirty (30) points.

With the Cantonments-based school limping with a negative score of five (-5) from the Second Round, the STEM Round gave them a life jacket, as they scored a dizzying fifty (50) points.

Aggrey once again were winners of the final round by thirty (30) points to twenty (20), but the overall combination of precision and prerequisite preparation made St. Thomas Aquinas the victors after final scores were tabulated.

St. Thomas Aquinas’ overall display when brought under the radar could be described as patently dogged.

On any other day where the stars aligned differently, however, it would have been Aggrey Memorial standing triumphant on Mount Zion.

Congratulations to both teams.
