Junior Sharks 8 Round 16- Queens Court and GIU keep fans on knife’s edge
GIU Int. School and Queens Court School will be extremely proud of the remarkable story they have written for themselves in Junior Sharks 8. The two brilliant schools met in the Round of 32 of Junior Sharks 8, with both schools having their eyes on the latter stages of the competition. GIU’s last appearance in the Junior Sharks quiz was phenomenal, going all the way to the quarter finals of Junior Sharks 7. It took the brilliance of losing finalists of Junior Sharks 7, Ancilla Primary and JHS, to keep GUI out of the competition.
Queen’s Court School on the other hand are tasting the famed Junior Sharks Quiz for the first time.
Such contests in Junior Sharks provide very useful lessons for competing schools and the sharks quiz fraternity.
As a matter of fact, this contest was a ding-dong affair- GIU winning a round, Queens Court with the round, and GIU again.
Yet again, the old cliché , “never say die until the bones are rotten”, was fully illustrated in this contest.
Round 1 (Right Corner Round)
GIU were very composed and looked to be in total control of the General Knowledge questions.
For Queens Court, this was not the best start they had hoped for.
At the end of the round, GIU had sixty (60) points to Queens Court’s thirty (30) points.
Round 2 (R Cubed Round)
Straightaway, Queens Court did not miss GIU’s bonus question. In response, GIU snatched the bonus from Queens Court. Game on!
With Derek leading GIU in the English segment, it was not surprising GIU were ahead.
It would turn out that in Arithmetic, Queens Court would also come up strongly and got both bonus and main questions with precision. Now the tables had turned massively in favour of Queens Court.
At the end of the round, GIU lost huge grounds by leaving with twenty (20) points opposed to the astronomic seventy-five (75) points Queens Court had.
Round 3 (STEM)
It’s fair to say both schools rose to the challenge in this round, and applied themselves with all they got.
At the end of the round, the two schools each got fifteen (15) points.
Round 4 (One-on-one)
The contest now down to the wire, Prempeh and Derek represented for Queens Court and GIU respectively as experts in English.
Derek beat Prempeh to it, snatching the two questions for twenty (20) points for GIU.
Math experts for Queens Court and GIU multiplied their efforts by zero. No points.
Jones for Queens Court split the twenty (20) points with GIU’s expert in Science.
Social scientists were Nadia and Joel for GIU and Queens Court respectively, but none could bring any positive news for their teams.
At the end of the round, GIU had gotten thirty (30) points while Queens Court took ten (10) points.
Therefore, the end of contest scores gave GIU a hundred and twenty-five (125) points, while Queens Court won with the slimmest of margins- one hundred and thirty (130) points.
A standing ovation for these two brilliant schools.
