Ayikuma Methodist Basic impress but Services go through
Services Primary and JHS have made it to the Round of 16 of Junior Sharks 8, thanks to a hard-fought victory over Ayikuma Methodist Basic School. If Services were to be candid with themselves, they would concede that they didn’t have it rosy against Ayikuma Methodist Basic in this electrifying contest. The Methodists presented four brilliant girls to face Services Basic in this penultimate contest of the Day 1 contests of Junior Sharks 8. With a calm and unassuming demeanour, the Ayikuma girls confirmed the profound words by Shakespeare that, “there’s no art to find the mind’s construction from the face”.
Indeed, the girls from Ayikuma announced to all that what was in their minds was bigger than what the world could see.
The astounding abilities of Ayikuma were so impressive that they won the first round by a comfortable margin as well as the STEM Round.
But for the individual brilliance of an expert in the one-on-one round, Services would have been given their marching orders to Burma Camp, Accra.
The win by Services will be a morale booster for them after they lost their Super Ranked status to Dahin Sheli in Season 7 of the Junior Sharks Quiz.
Round 1 ( Right Corner Round)
Ayikumah approached this round cautiously, but slowly and steadily they did what was needed. This is a round Ayikumah took with no sweat at all.
Services made thirty (30) points for themselves while Ayikuma Methodist took home fifty (50) points.
Round 2 (R Cubed Round)
Services Primary dusted off their slow start in the first round and made important interventions to their Reading and Writing. Ayikuma Methodist tried their best, too, but self-destructed a few times.
Services were the better side in the English segment, but Ayikumah came from behind and turned things around.
Scores at the end of the round showed twenty (20) points for Ayikuma and fifty (50) points for Services.
Round 3 (STEM Round)
Services and Ayikumah both started off nicely by claiming the first three riddles of the round.
The thrilling spectacle provided by these two schools received loud cheers from fans of the two schools.
At the end of the round, there were only ten (10) points between Ayikuma and Services, as forty (40) points went to the former while thirty-five (35) went to the latter.
Round 4 (One-on-one)
In the round of experts, Hamdiyah and Samuel represented Ayikuma and Services in English.
Samuel delivered a Scripps Spelling Bee-worthy performance after he spelt correctly ‘antediluvian’ after they both narrowly missed the first question.
Mathematicians entrusted with changing the mathematical fortunes of their teams could not live up to expectations.
Edna and Mansura for Ayikuma and Services respectfully came up next as Science experts
Mansura took the first riddle and second riddles to bring Services within striking distance of their first win in Junior Sharks 8.
Her crisp answers had visibly calmed the nerves of the Services supporters who had been sitting on pins at this point.
Cornelius and Jejorm represented Ayikuma and Services in General Knowledge.
Sadly, however, there were no positive responses from both of them.
End-of-round scores had Ayikuma with ten (10) points and Services with thirty (30) points.
Thus, the total scores for this contest came down to one hundred and twenty (120) for Ayikuma and eventual winner Services with one hundred and forty-five (145) points.
Services will bank on their hopes on this win as they hope to rediscover their glory days in Junior Sharks. Congratulations to both schools for giving us a good contest.
