Junior Sharks 9- Joy Standard is not the standard of Victory Standard

Two schools united in nomenclature but separated by intellect, took centre stage at the Round 1 stage of Junior Sharks 9. The two unique schools were Joy Standard School, Ahinsan-Kumasi, and Victory Standard, Afienya Mataheko. For their reward, the winner of this contest of the two “Standard” was going to get the privilege of meeting a Ranked School at the next stage of the competition.

Of the two “Standard” it was Victory Standard, which went out guns blazing in this contest and set a standard too high for Joy Standard to match up.

Victory Standard put up an overall impressive performance in each round, showcasing teamwork, sharp thinking, and determination, to record a massive scoreline.

But Joy Standard it must be said did not completely go “MIA”, as they emerged quite formidable in all disciplines.

Right Corner Round

Victory Standard went in first. First, they say it is not always the best, but in this instance, they 

were best with a score of seventy (70) points.

Joy Standard were not woeful either and were able to draw forty (40) points from their endeavours.

R Cubed Round

Victory Standard had a clean sweep in the Reading and Writing segment, not dropping a single point. Joy Standard faltered a bit but they were also impressive nonetheless.

As if the performance of Victory Standard in the Reading and Writing segment was the beginning, Victory Standard repeated that extraordinary feat in the Arithmetic section.

Joy Standard took thirty-five (35) points to end the round while Victory Standard had ninety (90) points.

STEM Round

Victory Standard met the reading of the first riddle with the view to enforcing their dominance, but took a checkmate.

Unfortunately Joy Standard could not take advantage of Victory’s slip.

The Ahinsan, Kumasi-based, decided to go for broke and interrupted as many riddles as they could. They earned some points but lost some as well to score zero (0).

On the other hand, Victory Standard missed all their interruptions to end a round with a negative score of fifteen (-15).

One-On-One Round

Anabel for Joy Standard and Joshua for Victory Standard as English experts. Joshua made a conscientious effort to decipher the missing letters and was rewarded with ten(10) points.

Calista for Victory Standard and Stephanie for Joy Standard respectively stepped forward as Math specialists. Their tries were not enough to earn any points.

In Science, Angelo faced Mikayla as the experts for Joy Standard and Victory Standard respectively.

Both specialists were brilliant- Mikayla picking the first riddle, and Angelo the second.

For General Knowledge, Joshua took on Tracy for Joy Standard.

After both narrowly missing the photo up for identification, Joshua did an excellent job correctly recognising the book “The Masquerader” by Ghanaian writer, Peggy Oppong.

At the end of the round, ten (10) points went to Joy Standard while thirty (30) points went to Victory Standard.

The final tally produced seventy-five (75) points for Joy Standard to the one hundred and seventy- five (175) by the victorious Victory Standard team.

Fun Fact!

Victory Standard’s score of ninety (90) in the R Cubed Round of this contest is the highest recorded in Junior Sharks 9.
