Sharks 5 : Opoku Ware School claims “the school” rights over Mfantsipim.

The battle to determine the primus inter pares of two renowned Schools was on at the Round of 16 of Senior Sharks Season 5.

For a long time, Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast, and Opoku Ware School, Kumasi, have both laid claim to the affectionate term, “The School”.

Their meeting at the Senior Sharks 5 therefore afforded them the platform to settle this endless argument once and for all.

Opoku Ware School, popularly known as Akatakyie, if the tale of the tapes were to show possess a stellar record in The Sharks Quiz.

The Santasi, Kumasi-based school were Season 2 winners of Senior Sharks and have given a good account of themselves in all seasons they participated.

Mfantsipim admittedly is not in the top echelons of The Sharks Quiz, but at the mention of their name, shivers run down the spine of opponents.

Coming on the back of a handsome win against KNUST SHS in the preliminary contest, Mfantsipim was in for business in Senior Sharks 5.

These are the dynamics that shaped this mouth-watering contest which in the end was a close shave victory for Opoku Ware School.

Round 1

Mfantsipim were called into action first in this round to answer their eight set of questions under two minutes.

By dint of sheer determination, Kwabotwe, another alias of Mfantsipim took a very respectable fifty(50) points.

Opoku Ware School(OWASS) was in for a match and they indeed showed they were willing and able as they valiantly bagged an impressive sixty(60) points.

Round 2

Again this round was a very cagey affair with both teams doing well in the Reading and Writing segment.

The Arithmetic segment disappointed fans a bit given the quality of contestants in this contest.

After questions were exhausted, the two schools had a mere five(5) points each to show.

Round 3

Opoku Ware swiftly took the first preamble of the STEM round.

Isaac Afreh who had entered the contest in Round 2 began to make a name for himself as he led the Akatakyie in this intellectual warfare.

But then also both schools adopted a cautious approach as this penultimate round took shape.

At the end of the round, Kwabotwe were lagging behind again with fifteen( 15) points as OWASS added more points to end the round with thirty(30) points.

Round 4

Twenty-five(25) points separated Opoku Ware and Mfantsipim School at this stage.

First, Ghartey and Papa Yaw for Mfantsipim School and Opoku Ware School respectively as English scholars faced off.

Ghartey was relieved to take the first question, and Papa Yaw was jolted to respond quickly to the second question but his effort backfired.

Ghartey once again took the second question correctly to leave fans sitting on edge.

Joel and Kwaku walked up stage as Math wizards for Mfantsipim School and Opoku Ware School respectively.

The verdict of their output was that their wizardry in Math was not compelling enough as both failed on their attempt at the two questions.

Up next were Delator and Isaac for Mfantsipim and Opoku Ware respectively as the Sharks in the Science segment.

There is a revelation in The Sharks Quiz every now and then and Isaac of Opoku Ware fits that definition.

Isaac took the two Science questions in a flash before Delator could even organise his thoughts.

Gabriel and Papa Kwame for Opoku Ware and Mfantsipim respectively as General Knowledge kingpins held the last card of this contest.

Gabriel was to deliver twenty(20) points for Mfantsipim School, but he was only able to deliver ten(10) points as he correctly identified the voice of maverick politician, Kennedy Agyapong, MP.

A very closely fought contest had come to a close and round four scores announced as thirty(30) points for Mfantsipim and twenty(20) points for Opoku Ware.

Mfantsipim had one hundred points(100) and Opoku Ware won this contest with one hundred and fifteen(115) points.
