Wesley Girls gives Presby SHTS an early exit from Senior Sharks 8

In a contest of nerves and verve, Wesley Girls High School, Cape Coast, red-carded Presby SHTS, Larteh, from the Senior Sharks 8 quiz. The Season 4 champions left it late to claim a victory that would calm their supporters at the Round of 16 contests. Wesley Girls contests have always been characterised by a strong showing in the arts and literacy subjects. They continued in this contest as they ended much stronger than they started, thereby outwitting Presby SHTS, Larteh. But holding the poised and confident Wesley Girls High School all the way from Round 1 to Round 3 is in and of itself a great undertaking.

Presby SHS Larteh ended Round 1 with the same points as Wey Gey Hey, instantly earning them the reputation of a ‘tiny but mighty’ team.

They didn’t stop there but stood up to Wesley Girls again in the R Cubed Round to send worrying signals to the passionate support base of the Cape Coasters.

The impending tumult, however, didn’t materialise as Wesley Girls rediscovered their abracadabra combination to win the last round massively and leave Presby SHTS, Larteh, mountains-bound.

Round-by-round action

Wesley Girls had a smooth take-off in this contest, with fifty(50) points at the end of Round 1, which was instantly cancelled by a sharp-witted Presby SHTS, Larteh.

But if Wesley Girls thought Presby SHTS’ explosive first-round score was much ado about nothing, the second round, a preserve of Wesley Girls, especially in the Reading & Writing, opened their eyes to what was at stake.

There was another tie in the R Cubed Round, with both schools earning fifteen (15) points each to the end of the round.

A little tact and circumspection in the STEM Round would have lifted Presby SHTS up with a realistic chance of winning the contest, but as Wesley Girls have encountered these rapids many times before, they knew how to walk on water.

When the experts lined up in the One-on-one Round, the difference between Wesley Girls and Presby SHTS, Larteh, was only five (5) points.

This difference of five (5), which was in favour of Wesley Girls, would be extended when the first girl's schools to win the Senior Sharks quiz won the last round with forty (40) points.

Presby SHTS, Larteh’s seventy (70) points at the end of the contest was a good account of their abilities, but with one hundred and five (105) points, Wesley Girls High School were waving white kerchiefs into the Round 16 of the Senior Sharks Quiz.

Given their large knowledge base, though, they would have to raise the ante to keep themselves afloat in the competition.

Congratulations to both schools.
