Senior Sharks 8 Round 16- Prempeh heartbreak as Keta SHTS wins via tiebreak

Scenes captured in the camp of Prempeh College after their epic encounter with Keta SHTS could undo even the most stoic of men. Prempeh College, were understandably inconsolable, seeing how victory slipped through their hands most painfully. After four rounds of gruesome battle, the two brilliant schools were in a deadlock and needed a tiebreaker to separate them in this Round 16 contest. That separation would come only after the fourth tie-break question was correctly answered by Keta SHTS to leave Prempeh completely shattered.

Of course, there is no belabouring the old adage “a miss is as good as a mile”, but the manner of Prempeh’s loss was simply undeserving for the great performance they put up.

After ending with a huge deficit in Round 1, the ‘King's College’, as Prempeh College is fondly remembered, fought like wounded lions and clawed themselves back into the contest.

The Sofoline, Kumasi, boys went on to win the subsequent rounds, ultimately pushing the contest into overdrive.

Who makes it to the quarterfinals of Senior Sharks 8 now came down to the last throw of the dice.

Keta’s braveness and composure would prove to be the x-factor that would keep them afloat in the competition as they excellently buzzed for the correct answer.

Round 1 ( Right Corner Round)

Prempeh started this mouth-watering contest and, unfortunately, was limping in this round to finish with thirty (30) points.

Keta’s hundred per cent score in this round is not altogether unheard of, as they have done marvellously well in previous contests of Senior Sharks.

Round 2 (R Cubed Round)

Keta SHTS (Ketasco) did not miss a single question in the Reading and Writing segment.

Prempeh lost ground but rose up remarkably well in the Arithmetic segment.

At the end of the round, Prempeh was in a slim lead with sixty (60) points to fifty-five (55) for Keta SHTS.

Round 3 (STEM)

Keta met the first riddle and neatly captured it but they fumbled the second.

Prempeh got their first riddle of the round after a slow start. It was the green boys who had the last laugh of the round, expertly taking the last two riddles of the round.

Scores gave thirty (30) to Prempeh and fifteen (15) to Ketasco.

Round 4 (One-on-one)

Certainly, both schools had the permutations well drummed home.

Without delay, Demi and Vincent for Keta and Prempeh, respectively, as English experts, took the mantle.

Vincent hit the first question to reduce Keta’s margin.

Lordson and Kwaku took over the mantle as experts in Math for Keta and Prempeh, with Kwaku getting all two questions superbly.

Benjamin and Kwadwo were poised as Science experts for Ketasco and Prempeh respectively.

Ben got the first question, and Kwadwo got the second to keep the contest inconclusive pending the output of the Social Literacy experts. The experts, Alvin and Fibi for Keta and Prempeh, respectively, kept the final scores unchanged.

Scores at the end of the round thus showed Prempeh with a life-saving forty (40) points while Keta took ten (10) points.

When the final results of this exhilarating contest were announced, both Keta SHS and Prempeh College had one hundred and sixty (160) points.

Thus a tie-break mechanism had to be adopted to separate the two.

First, second, and third tie-breaker questions all came back incorrectly answered or unattempted until Benjamin broke the tense atmosphere with a correct answer to lift Keta into the next round. What a super contest this was. Congratulations to both schools.
