ADISCO STUN MFANTSIPIM IN TENSION-PACKED CONTEST

Colossal encounters in the Senior Sharks do not come any grander than that between Adisadel College and Mfantsipim School. These two arch-rivals contended in Senior Sharks for the first time, albeit having numerous other intellectual contests between them. Characteristic of exchanges of such calibre, everything including pride and bragging rights were up for the taking.

Both teams were brimming with confidence as they lined up for this eagerly anticipated Round of 16 contest of Senior Sharks 6.

Adisco have gone as far as the semi-finals of Senior Sharks 2 with a 2nd runner-up position to their credit while Mfantsipim are in only their second Senior Sharks.

The prevailing sentiment in the packed auditorium and thousands watching on screen was that this was going to be a high scoring contest.

Contests involving sworn enemies with no love lost between them tend to not necessarily follow a certain pattern or forecast as we would see.

Round-by-round account of this contest told a tale that will only make one shift anxiously in their seat.

Round 1

Every single point counts in a highly tensed contest as this and Mfantsipim were awakened to that as they started on a high note.

Led in chief by Kelvin and Christian, Mfantsipim, a.k.a Kwabotwe had the first laugh in this contest, ending the Round with a morale boosting seventy (70) points.

Adisco have not particularly been exceptional in General Knowledge of Senior Sharks and their output once again exposed them.

The Zebra Boys managed to console themselves with only forty (40) points.

Round 2

It was apparent that both sides came with a strategy to err on the side of caution rather than risk deductions.

In the Arithmetic segment for instance, Adisco shied away from answering their main or bonus question.

In the end, the scores were low on both sides with Adisadel doing just a little better than Mfantsipim.

Ten (10) and five (5) points went for Adisco and Kwabotwe respectively.

Round 3

With options to the first question not fully exhausted, Mfantsipim decided to take their destiny into their own hands.

The buzzer chimed but the answer was ectopic, leaving Adisadel with all the time in the world to consider thoroughly their options.

Michael Kwasi, fully satisfied with his choice coolly buzzed to hit first ten points for Adisadel College.

The reason Michael was introduced into this contest was beginning to tell as he took the contest and rode it like he was on a magic carpet.

Adisadel were adjudged correct on all questions attempted to earn them a match-deciding sixty (60) points.

Mfantsipim had two correct answers but it was chipped away by their three incorrect answers to leave them wallowing with just five (5) points.

Round 4

Roland and Prince stood in the name of Adisco and Mfantsipim respectively as English specialists.

Prince made a bold attempt at providing the missing letters in the two words given but he missed all unfortunately.

Benedict and Obeng were the Math Sharks for Adisco and Mfantsipim respectively.

Obeng missed his first attempt but he stuck to his guns and went for the Option “C" again and was lucky this time.

Science experts were Michael Kwasi and Christian for Adisadel and Mfantsipim respectively.

Michael was shades off with his first and second attempts which allowed Christian all the time in the world to think through his answers.

Tried as he did, the answers were not forthcoming and his guess works failed.

With just twenty (20) points standing in between who gets crowned “Kings of Cape Coast", Michael Gyasi and Obeng appeared as General Knowledge dons.

Michael finished the job for the Santaclausians when he identified Rita Akosua Dickson, first female Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.

Obeng also identified the audio of songstress Wendy Shay to earn ten (10) points for Mfantsipim, but it was too little too late.

A truly enthralling contest had come to an end with final tallied scores giving Adisco one hundred and twenty points (120) to one hundred (100) points for Mfantsipim.

Kudos to Adisadel College for coming from behind to snatch victory from Mfantsipim in Napoleonic fashion.

We doff our hats to Mfantsipim School also for losing gallantly.
