For 40-odd minutes, the two schools thrilled the packed auditorium at Studio B, TV3, Accra, with their agility and exceptional intellectual ability.

Each school didn’t wish to go down in infamy as the first team to say bye-bye to the Junior Sharks 9.

It was an intense contest between two schools with equal strengths but Angels’ Ridge took their chances when it mattered most.

Effiduase Presby Basic ‘A’ held their own in two rounds of the contest, and could have been the happier of the two had they not experienced Johnny-come-lately syndrome.

Right Corner Round

With all quiz protocols duly observed, Effiduase Presby Basic ‘A’ were the first to answer their set of Social Literacy questions.

It wasn’t what they had hoped for, but twenty (20) points was better than nothing.

Angels’ Ridge took a cue from Effiduase’s misses and made serious efforts at their eighth set of questions, but they could only do one better.

R Cubed Round

Even before the round entered the arena of Arithmetics, it was evident that the Junior Sharks quiz had had a positive impact on the grammatical skills of pupils.

Both schools were solid in the Reading and Writing segment.

Starting the Arithmetic segment on a wrong footing would have disrupted the gait of many a competing school, but Angels’ Ridge showed why they are a familiar feature of Junior Sharks. They reordered their steps and ended the round with forty-five (45) points while Effiduase took fifteen (15) points.

STEM Round

With the penultimate round underway, the first contest of Junior Sharks 9 was entering a decisive phase.

The first STEM question was grabbed with both hands by Effiduase. Angels’ Ridge responded with two answers to the riddles before Effiduase pushed Angels’ Ridge back with another correct buzz.

After jostling for supremacy in this round, the two schools ended the round with twenty (20) points each.

One-On-One Round

Experts in English were Ewurama and Afua for Angels’ Ridge and Effiduase respectively.

The two questions worth forty (40) points were shared by the two experts.

Mubarak for Effiduase and Jaysen for Angels’ Ridge respectively in Math got introduced to fans. Jaysen first missed the first question and Mubarak also followed.

The second question also took the same pattern.

Daniela and Benino for Effiduase and Angels’ Ridge respectively in Science were next in action. Benino picked the first question but missed narrowly on the second.

Jewel for Effiduase and Caleb for Angels’ Ridge respectively stepped up as General Knowledge experts.

While Caleb wrongly identified the photo for identification as Kofi Annan, Jewel put the jewel in the crown by correctly recognising the late South African President and Freedom Fighter, Nelson Mandela.

Caleb thought hard and long before finally matching the quote, “if u educate a woman…” to its rightful owner- Dr Kwegyir Aggrey.

Effiduase thus ended the round with twenty (20) points and Angels’ Ridge led the round with thirty (30) points.

An exciting contest had wrapped up, and Angels’ Ridge had won with one hundred and twenty-five (125) points while Effiduase Presby Basic ‘A’ were second best with seventy-five (75) points. Congratulations to both teams.

Fun Fact!

With this qualification to the next round, Angels’ Ridge has advanced to the next stage of every Junior Sharks competition they’ve competed in without losing their first contest.
