Junior Sharks 9 R16- Giants DPS Int. fall to ‘small axe’ Ayikuma Methodist
Methodist JHS, Ayikuma, rose to instant internet celebrity status after doing what many had termed as mission impossible in the Junior Sharks Quiz 9. The best team by points so far in the competition bundled DPS International out of the competition to demonstrate yet again that their ascendancy in Junior Sharks 9 is not by accident.
Ayikuma's less-fancied profile was not stumbling as they competed unsmitten by the spine-chilling reputation of the Tema-based school.
DPS International, is among the top three high achievers in Junior Sharks, with a record that is surpassed only by Ghana Christian High Int.
But even the best of the best get their reality check sometimes, and that’s exactly what happened to DPS on this tumultuous 11th day in March, 2026.
The contest was highly competitive in all the rounds, and once again accorded with the high ratings fans have for the competition.
But the ‘power girls’ from Ayikuma were hungrier and more focused and would go on to achieve an unprecedented victory in Junior Sharks history.
Right Corner Round
It was the two-time winners who were called into action with their eight set of questions and they fought hard to end the round with fifty(50) points.
Ayikuma Methodist took their turn and went one better than DPSI to finish with sixty (60) points.
R Cubed Round
Both teams made light work of the Reading and Writing segment and continued to impress in the Arithmetic.
Between Ayikuma and DPSI, however, the Tema-based school were more clinical in the Arithmetic segment to end the round with forty-five (45) points to Ayikuma’s fifty (50).
STEM Round
Ayikuma, with Hamdiya as the heroine intercepted the reading of the first two riddles of the round…And with that twenty (20) points followed.
After failing in their quest to respond to Ayikuma, DPSI were able to buzz correctly on the next riddle. They matched Ayikuma well, but couldn’t stop them from ending the round with thirty (30) points whereas they earned zero (0).
One-On-One
The one-on-one round first produced Joana and Edna respectively for DPSI and Ayikuma. There was no positive news from them.
Saeed and Melissa followed as Math experts for Ayikuma and DPSI respectively. But Melissa answered the second question ecstatically.
Science experts saw Kyle and Hamdiya for DPSI and Ayikuma respectively. Dependable Hamdiya didn’t disappoint, casually buzzing to bag two questions for twenty (20) points.
Kwasi and Juanita showed as the General Knowledge experts for DPSI and Ayikuma respectively. DPSI’s expert correctly matched the logo of the best private University in Ghana, and long-standing sponsor of the Sharka quiz, Ashesi University.
At the end of the round, both Ayikuma Methodist and DPS International shared the same points with twenty (20) each.
The final scores for this riveting encounter were distributed as one hundred and fifteen (115) points for DPSI and one hundred and sixty (160) points for the giant slayers, Ayikuma Methodist.

Fun Fact!
Ayikuma Methodist is the first non-Ranked school to defeat a Super Ranked school.
