Junior Sharks 9 R16- GIU International overpower Matta Devi

GIU International, stood firm against Matta Devi Int when the two faced off in a highly combative contest at the Round of 16 of Junior Sharks 9. It was a close shave encounter indeed as both teams went looking for that sucker punch that would eliminate their opponents. Both teams, being well accustomed to the Junior Sharks quiz, knew that a great start in Round 1 could have a positive impact on the entire contest.

The rounds went in favour of Matta Devi, then GIU, then Matta Devi, to keep fans sitting on the knife’s edge till the blast of the bell to end the contest.

Right Corner Round

Both teams were very gracious in the Reading and Writing round, answering their main questions to keep the playing field level.

Onto the Arithmetics, Matta Devi was razor sharp as they collected their main Arithmetic question, on top of GIU’s bonus.

But the tables quickly turned as GIU also bagged their main questions to end the round with thirty-five (35) points ahead of Matta Devi with twenty-five (25) points.

Round 3 (STEM Round)

Immediately the round got underway, Matta  Devi buzzed for the first riddle but there were shades off the required answer.

GIU also rushed in and suffered the same predicament as Matta Devi.

Matta Devi, however, snapped the second riddle of the round for ten (10) points.

Against the backdrop of their correct interruption, Matta Devi felt emboldened to buzz for more riddles, and they were right.

They were unlucky on their next interruption to the first woman Nobel Prize winner’s element she discovered in 1898 and named after her homeland, Poland.

GIU had all the time in the world to deliver “Polonium” as the best answer as it appeared in the options available.

One-On-One Round

Rebecca and Dedrick were introduced as English experts for Matta Devi and GIU, respectively.

The first question and the second question went to Dedrick and Rebecca in that order- ten (10) points well shared.

Francis and Kudjo quickly entered the scene as Math experts for Matta Devi, and GIU respectively.

They both attempted the two questions but missed them.

Princess and Samuel then appeared as Science experts for GIU and Matta Devi respectively.

It was Princess who regally hit the first question, and the second question for twenty (20) game-changing points.

Emmanuel for Matta Devi and Davynn for GIU, respectively, in General Knowledge, concluded the candidates for subject experts from both schools.

Emmanuel earned ten (10) points for Matta Devi. But that would be all folks.

Therefore, thirty (30) points went into the coffers of GIU while Matta Devi took twenty (20) points into theirs.

At the end of this fiery battle, GIU had earned an outstanding one hundred and five (105) points, while GIU was grinning widely with one hundred and twenty (120) points.

Congratulations to both schools.

Fun Fact!

Matta Devi by this defeat, has lost their Super Ranked status.
