Senior Sharks 8 Round 16- Accra Aca handle Wesley Girls' beautifully
Accra Academy was good enough to keep Wesley Girls’ High School, Cape Coast, at arm’s length as the two competed for a place in the quarterfinals of the Senior Sharks 8 quiz. The two schools were like two peas in a pod, with little to differentiate between them in this Round of 32 contest. Wesley Girls’ High School (Wey Gey Hey) commands a lot of respect in the Senior Sharks quiz for being the first girl's school to reach the finals of the competition and win it.
For Accra Academy, returning to the most innovative high school quiz after a three-year break has been a fruitful experience.
In Senior Sharks 7, the Academicians reached the quarterfinals, uprooting stalwarts like Opoku Ware School in the process.
In this contest, however, Wesley Girls' tormented the Kaneshie-based school and was on the verge of emerging victorious.
Accra Aca’s final push in the last round was crucial in securing them this victory that takes them to another Super Ranked standing.
Round 1 (Right Corner)
Accra Aca started this stage of the contest dedicated to general knowledge of the world around us.
For their efforts, Accra Academy had fifty (50) points while Wey Gey Hey earned forty (40) points.
Round 2 (R Cubed)
Wesley Girl’s gave off a flawless performance with just a single question unattempted in the Reading and Writing section.
Accra Aca were not on Gey Hey’s level in the Reading and Writing but made amends in the Arithmetic segment.
At the end of the round, Gey Hey jumped into the lead with a five (5) points difference between them and Accra Aca.
Round 3 (STEM Round)
The first correct buzz for the riddle, whose answer was “Anaphase”, went to Accra Aca for ten (10) points.
Both schools were cocksure of themselves and continued to attempt most of the questions in the STEM Round.
Once again, Gey Hey were the winners with another five (5) points slim advantage over Accra Academy.
Twenty (20) points were recorded for the Cape Coasters while fifteen (15) went for the Accrans.
Round 4 (One-on-one)
With both teams standing on the threshold of victory, the experts in this round held the destiny of their schools in their pockets.
Emmanuela and Kelvin appeared as English experts for Wesley Girl’s and Accra Academy respectively.
Emmanuella got the second word right to bring Wey Gey Hey up.
Barbara and Kow Blankson also came forth as Math experts for Wesley Girl’s and Accra Academy.
It was Kow who had the second question correct after missing the first.
In Science, Bernice and Eric stepped up as experts for Wesley Girl’s and Accra Academy respectively.
Once again, the expert for Accra Academy,
Eric got ten (10) points on the second question.
Nhyiraba and Emmanuel completed the lineup of experts, but none was able to bring any more points.
Thus, scores at the end of the round were given as Gey Hey with ten (10) and Accra Academy with thirty (30) points.
Final scores in this colourful encounter were distributed as follows: one hundred and five (105) for Wesley Girl’s and one hundred and fifteen (115) for Accra Academy.
Even with this loss, Gey Gey will take solace in the fact that only one question stood between them and victory. Congratulations to both schools.
