Junior Sharks 9- Sonrise come tops in “thriller in Volta” battle against Ketasco Basic

Sonrise started strongly and led the first round, before Ketasco basic overtook them with a string of measured responses in the Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic Round.

After restoring their lead in the STEM Round, Sonrise went on to add the final round to make sure victory was a certainty.

Right Corner Round

The first set of eight General Knowledge questions on Ghanaian governance and currencies of the world went to Ketasco M/A Basic. It was tough terrain for the Keta boys and girls as they could manage only ten (10) points.

Unlike Ketasco basic, Sonrise Christian High found the strength to catapult itself into an early lead with forty (40) points.

R Cubed Round

Ketasco and Sonrise had little to separate them in the Reading and Writing segment of this round.

Ketasco were, however, able to pull away slightly from Sonrise to end the round with thirty-five (35) points to Sonrise’s twenty (20) points.

STEM Round

As agile as a monkey- Sonrise picked the first riddle of the round for ten (10) points.

A spirited response from Ketasco to Sonrise’s correct buzz was returned to the negative region.

Sonrise continued to intercept the subsequent riddles, but unfortunately, they were not all successful.

Finally, their eureka moment came when they hit the last two questions to bring the round to a bright end.

One-On-One Round

The contest having swung between the shores of Keta and the tropics of Ho, the last round was an all-or-nothing affair.

Kendrick, the specialist in English for Sonrise, faced Benedict from Ketasco respectively.

Kendrick’s attempt at the first question was a curious case of indecision, allowing Benedict all the time to pick the best option that explains the idiomatic expression, “curiosity killed the cat”.

Even more curious was the fact that Benedict in turn buzzed first on the second idiom and missed, handing the initiative to Kendrick who made no mistake this time around.

Mathematicians for Ketasco and Sonrise came in the shapes of Louis and Onyabea respectively.

After missing the first question, Louis was able to add another ten (10) points to the tally of Sonrise.

As Science experts, Sheila and Petter for Ketasco and Sonrise respectively faced each other, at which point Sonrise had everything under control.

Petter hit the first question while Sheila snatched the second question to increase the points tally for their respective schools.

Prince and Humble were the specialists for Sonrise and Ketasco respectively in Social Literacy. Prince attempted the first question and missed, but Humble humbly declined the invitation to hazard an answer.

Prince was second time lucky as he correctly identified the photo of Dr. Omane Boamah.

End of round scores were called thus- thirty (30) points for Ketasco and forty (40) points for Sonrise.

At the end of an exciting contest, Ketasco had seventy-five (75) points, whereas Sonrise went home with one hundred and twenty-five (125) points. Congratulations to both teams.

Fun Fact!

Sonrise regained the Ranked School status they lost in Junior Sharks 8 at the hands of Matta Devi.
