"PRIDE OF ASHANTI" BATTLE - MENSAH SAAHENE BOW TO MATTA DEVI

The bragging rights to “the pride of Ashanti'' tag was on the table when Asante-Mampong's popular and revered Preparatory school, Mensah Saahene, took on Matta Devi from Gyinase, Kumasi. The match, brewed in the Golden Kingdom and delivered at Adesa We, Accra, proved extremely worthwhile by all standards.

By way of background, Matta Devi is a Ranked School in Junior Sharks 7, owing to their impressive exploits in Junior Sharks 6.

Mensah Saahene took on highly fancied Sonrise Christian School in their first ever contest of Junior Sharks Quiz in the preliminary round.

In that contest, nothing about Mensah Saahene showed they were minnows as they took the Ho-based school to the cleaners with a thirty(30) points gap at the end of the contest.

Mensah Saahene and Matta Devi both lived up the competitive spirit of the Junior Sharks Quiz in this exciting contest.

Right Corner Round

In Round 1, both schools exhibited a satisfactory knowledge of the world around us.

Even though they could not attain the maximum points available, Mensah Saahene managed forty (40) points with fifty (50) points going for Matta Devi.

R Cubed Round

Matta Devi engaged in a brief teamwork session before hitting the correct answer on their first question of the Round.

It was Mensah Saahene's turn to keep up with the pace set by Matta Devi but they tumbled to allow Matta Devi pick their question correctly for a bonus.

Thereafter, both teams experienced undulating moments in the Reading and Writing segment.

Matta Devi could not conjure any positive answer in the Arithmetic segment, allowing Saahene Mensah to make amends for their earlier missteps.

Fifteen (15) points each for both teams was a fair reflection of proceedings.

STEM Round

For reasons best known to them, Mensah Saahene took off too early on the first riddle and crashed heavily.

Matta Devi's “Vitamin C” answer was what was expected by quizmistress instead of Saahene Mensah's “Vitamin D”.

Both schools turned the heat up thereafter and chalked positive results for their efforts.

Mensah Saahene, however, committed more blunders at the same time to whittle away their impressive STEM run.

As such, they ended the round with ten (10) points while Matta Devi extended their lead with thirty-five (35)

One-on-one Round

Philip and Lois took position to show the grammaticality of their status for Mensah Saahene and Matta Devi respectively.

On the two questions posed, only Lois mustered courage to hazard a guess..Your guess is as good as mine- zilch!

Ampomah emerged as the Math wizard for Mensah Saahene while Obed was his equivalent in Matta Devi.

The seriousness with which they exhibited in solving the questions was not commensurate with the expectations.

At this stage, things didn't look good for Mensah Saahene.

Bartels brought Saahene Mensah closer to a photo finish when he bagged the two questions asked in Science.

Kwame, at the other side for Matta Devi attempted but failed in his hasty attempts.

Fans of Mensah Saahene were understandably in high spirits when Prince entered the stage to face Christian in General Knowledge.

Christian was the first to pick the photo uploaded for identification while Prince picked the audio.

Matta Devi's only bright spot in General Knowledge earned them ten (10) points while Mensah Saahene earned thirty (30) points.

Scores at the end of the contest had Mensah Saahene with ninety-five (95) points and Matta Devi with one hundred and ten (110) points.

Mensah Saahene indeed gave their all, but their all wasn't enough. Better luck next time ‘Kontonkyi’ and congrats to Matta Devi.
