Senior Sharks 9- Ghana National rally round to sting University Practise at the death
Ghana National College was second-time lucky after leaving it late to pip University Practice SHS in a close contest in Round 2 of the ongoing Senior Sharks 9 competition. The two renowned schools from Cape Coast, were hoping to join the Round 16 train and take their seat as a Ranked School. In the end, it was University Practice SHS (UPSHS) that ceded its ranked place to Ghana National College in the most surreal manner. The contest started on a rough patch in the First Round as the two schools busily tried to gain a foothold in the contest.
Entering the Right Corner Round, the desire by the two schools to get in front and gain a mental edge over the other was tangible.
With two rounds left, and with UPSHS gaining the upper hand, Ghana National turned things around, winning the STEM and One-On-One Rounds to leave UPSHS crestfallen.
Right Corner Round (Social Literacy)
Any point gained in the Right Corner Round where questions are sometimes of a tricky nature, is a commendable effort.
Both schools took twenty (20) points.
R Cubed Round ( Literacy and Numeracy)
The Reading and Writing exposed a big flaw in the literacy abilities of the two schools.
In the Arithmetic segment, Ghana National were close yet so far on their attempt, resulting in a negative score.
UPSHS decided to wash their hands off their major question rather than engage in speculative work.
The Arithmetic remained scoreless, until UPSHS finally broke the jinx to record the first correct score.
At the end of the round, the output of UPSHS in the Arithmetic helped them get a score of twenty (20) while Ghana National suffered greatly with no points.
STEM Round (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
UPSHS loss was Ghana National’s gain as the latter fine-tuned the answer by UPSHS for the first points of the round.
It wasn’t a lively exchange from both schools generally, with Ghana National falling into a pit on their attempts to allow UPSHS to gain more leverage.
Fortunately, Ghana National were able to seize the MOMENTUM for a spirited ACCELERATION towards the finish line.
At the end of the round, UPSHS had five (5) points while Ghana National had twenty-five (25) points.
One-On-One (Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Social Literacy)
Fingers crossed in anticipation as the two schools presented their experts to finish off the job for them in this classic encounter.
Doreen and Nathaniel for UPSHS and Ghana National respectively in English showed up. No points were recorded.
The Math experts were Nii and Benedict for Ghana National and UPSHS respectively.
Again no points were recorded.
Edem and Emmanuel for UPSHS and Ghana National respectively in Science had work to do. And they did it nicely by each taking ten (10) points.
Judith and Solomon for UPSHS and Ghana National respectively were on hand to deliver their gumption in General Knowledge. Solomon, displaying wisdom unlike never seen before, took all twenty (20) points.
End of round scores gave ten (10) points to UPSHS and Ghana National, thirty (30) points.
And with that last-gasp intervention in the General Knowledge of the one-on-one round, Ghana National College won the contest with seventy-five (75) points. UPSHS took fifty-five (55) points in commiseration. Congratulations to both schools.
Fun Fact!
Ghana National College has regained the Ranked School status it lost.
