Junior Sharks 9- Joy in the air as Joy Standard School win first Junior Sharks contest
One of Ashanti Region’s celebrated schools, Joy Standard School, rediscovered the form that made them a household name in Kumasi as they made their maiden appearance in Junior Sharks. The Ahinsan-Kumasi-based school were up against Nana Osae Djan Cluster 1 & 2, Nsawam, in a fascinating contest at Round 1 of Junior Sharks 9.
It was a contest of two evenly-matched newbies, but it was Joy Standard that competed like seasoned customers in Junior Sharks.
Joy Standard kept Nana Osae quiet throughout the contest with well-minded answers to the questions asked.
They had a great start to the contest and earned better than average scores in each round to finish the contest miles ahead of Nana Osae Djan Cluster 1 & 2.
Right Corner Round
Nana Osae Djan Cluster 1 & 2 appeared to struggle with their set of questions and almost went home empty-handed but they took ten (10) points to bring some relief to their fans.
Joy Standard School’s mission statement for this contest was on full display as their sharpness in General Knowledge earned them sixty (60) points.
R Cubed Round
Nana Osae Djan fumbled their first question in the round but Joy Standard could not make the best of the situation.
But the Ahinsan-based school cautiously picked their next set of questions and increased the points built up.
It was Joy Standard who capped a brilliant round with the last question of the round in their pocket.
At the end of the round, Nana Osae Djan could not earn any points while Joy Standard were rewarded with forty-five (45) points for a good job done.
STEM Round
Four correct questions in this round went the way of the gentleman and ladies representing Joy Standard School while Nana Osae Djan picked three correct answers.
At the end of the round, each school had wrongly buzzed once to leave Joy Standard with thirty-five (35) points to twenty-five (25) for Nana Osae Djan Cluster 1 & 2.
One-On-One Round
Franklina and Herbert were first introduced as English experts for Joy Standard and Nana Osae Djan respectively.
Herbert took the first question, leaving Franklina astonished, but her shock soon turned to smiles as she bagged the second question.
Francis met Stephanie to represent Nana Osae Djan and Joy Standard respectively in Mathematics.
Without further ado, Stephanie left Francis behind as she correctly figured out the “how many buses leave before 8am” question.
Unfortunately, none could decipher the “probability that both are girls”, in a family with two children, and at least one of them being a girl.
Science experts were Angelo and Kwadwo for Joy Standard and Nana Osae Djan respectively and they both delivered brilliantly.
General Knowledge specialists Tracy and Peasah for Joy Standard and Nana Osae Djan respectively were not as politically savvy as fans had expected. None could identify the photo of the Tourism Minister nor the autobiographical book, “My First Coup d'Etat”, by President John Mahama, H.E.
At the end of the round, Nana Osae had twenty (20) points while Joy Standard had thirty (30) points.
Final scores for this contest had one hundred and seventy (170) points for Joy Standard School to leave Nana Osae Djan with fifty-five (55) points. Congratulations to both teams.
Fun Fact!
Joy Standard is the first school from the Ashanti Region to qualify for the next round of Junior Sharks 9.
