Senior Sharks 9 R16- Accra Aca glides to victory against St Louis
Accra Academy displayed incredible willpower to stop St. Louis SHS at the Round 16 of Senior Sharks 9 and march proudly into the quarterfinals. The “Academicians”, as Accra Academy is stylistically referred to, looked sharp and exhibited cool nerves throughout the contest. From start to finish, Accra Academy put themselves in the front row and made sure St. Louis did not rise to the fore. But St. Louis is a team of no mean credentials, and definitely no walkover. Fresh from their knife-edge victory against Holy Child School in their last contest, the nimble-footed ladies came into this contest amped up for the challenge.
And they matched Accra Academy toe-to-toe, showing their prowess by beating the boys in the STEM Round.
What stopped St. Louis from going further in the competition was the accumulation of the point differences in the other rounds that undid their brilliant output.
Round-By-Round Action
The first round gave an indication of where this contest might head, as both teams stepped on the gas straightaway.
Accra Academy took an early lead with sixty (60) points, while St. Louis SHS scored fifty (50) making this the biggest combined scores in the Right Corner Round of Senior Sharks 9.
It was a close and competitive start with both schools showing skill, speed, and focus. But Accra had something up its sleeve in the R Cubed Round.
They obliterated St. Louis with forty-five (45) points, leaving St. Louis scrambling for fifteen (15) points at the end of the round.
In the STEM Round, both schools displayed a high level of acuity in the riddles, but St. Louis had not just power but precision, and thus took a slight lead with forty (40) points.
With the last round the title decider of this pulsating contest, St. Louis had their hopes alive once again.
The resurgence however did not materialise as Accra Academy’s experts kept St. Louis experts at bay to end the round with forty (40) points. St. Louis' best efforts yielded twenty (20) which failed to trouble Accra Academy at the end of the contest.
Final scores were an impressive one hundred and twenty (120) points for St. Louis SHS, while Accra Academy stood their ground to win with one hundred and eighty (180) points.
