Senior Sharks 8 quarterfinals- Presec sizeless against rivals Accra Academy

One of the oldest rivalries in academic circles, Accra Academy versus Presbyterian Boys Secondary School (Presec), Legon, resurfaced at the ongoing Senior Sharks 8 competition. The two venerated schools played guests to each other at the quarter-final stage of the quiz, with a place in the last four on offer. In getting here, Accra Academy (Accra Aca) faced some tough hurdles, notably coming up against Season 4 winners, Wesley Girls High School.

But they smothered the firepower of the extremely endowed Wesleyans with an exceptional effort to book a berth in the quarterfinals.

By a twist of fate, their quarterfinal opponents turned out to be none other than arch-nemesis Presec, Legon.

Presec, defending champions of the Senior Sharks and with their ever-ubiquitous charm offensive, had already announced their presence in Senior Sharks 8 with a bang.

The three-time unprecedented champions had won against indomitable opposition, Adisadel College, Cape Coast, via tiebreaker in their most recent contest.

That long-drawn-out win against the Cape Coasters was a show of the resilience of the defending champions.

With that, Presec came into the contest with Accra Aca like a blazing furnace and was just too hot for Accra Aca to handle.

Round 1 (Right Corner)

Presec are record title holders for a reason, and their consistently high scores in the Right Corner Round only reaffirm this.

They had seventy (70) points to Accra Aca’s thirty (30) points.

Round 2 (R Cubed)

Presec were simply out of this world in the Reading and Writing segment.

And their killer instincts continued in the Arithmetic segment with Caleb as the tormentor-in-chief.

Even though Accra Aca tried their best to keep pace with the Blue Magicians, the

Round 3 (STEM Round)

The first question of the round went by silently, but Presec dropped the second question to deafening cheers from the blue army in attendance.

Then the Presecans got two more riddles before Accra Aca shook off the blues and got two riddles brilliantly.

At the end of the round, Presec had forty (40) points against ten (10) for Accra Aca.

Round 4 (One-on-one)

Despite the impracticability of Accra Academy emerging victorious in this contest, their expert in English, Kelvin faced Sedinam, the expert for Presec.

Sedinam, after correctly answering the first question, went ahead to decode Africa’s most widely read book, ‘Things Fall Apart’ written by Chinua Achebe.

In Math, Ekow and Caleb appeared in the shot as experts for Accra Aca and Presec respectively. Caleb took all twenty (20) points on the table.

Now, Papa Kodwo and Nana Offei made their way as Science specialists for Presec and Accra Academy, respectively, and once again, the Presecan added ten (10) points.

Emmanuel and Elijah represented Accra Aca and Presec, respectively, in General Knowledge.

Elijah went from deciphering Japanese, then across the Pacific to Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, as he took all twenty (20) points. Pure magic!

At the end of the round, Accra had no points while Presec had seventy (70) points.

When total scores were announced, Presec had attained the highest score yet in Senior Sharks with two hundred and sixty-five (265) while Accra Aca managed seventy-five (75).

Presec marches on in the Sharks Quiz, a development that presents real problems for schools in Senior Sharks 8.

Congratulations to both teams.
